Quinta Da Regaleira Wells

Quenta Da Regaleira is located the historical center of Sintra. This is a great heritage protected landscape. Thousands of tourists flock towards the place to admire the unique architecture of Quinta Da Regaleira which combines the Gothic, Egyptian and Moorish features. Most enticing things are the wells which are spiraling deep within the Earth. These wells have never been used nor intended  for water collection. These mysterious underground towers were used for secretive initiation rites.

There are different architecture on the stairs of these wells which explains the concept of life and death according to different ancient beliefs. One of the wells contain 9 platforms which are said to be the nine circles of hell in ancient  beliefs. These wells also shows beliefs related to skies and paradise.
